James Storm was born and raised in Franklin, Tn. Growing up James had only one thing on his mind. That was to be a Professional Wrestler. Storm’s dad passed away when he was only 12. Leaving him to take care of his mom and younger brother. Storm worked very hard to be a good son and to be a good role model for his brother. Growing up he idolized Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. Watching and studying every move they would do. Storm won a amateur wrestling title while in school and had a full basketball scholarship waiting for him.
Storm started training in the spring of 96 under the eye of wolfie-d of pg-13 fame. Training at Nashville fairground and times at Jerry Jarrett’s farm. Jeff Jarrett would stop in time to time and show us a couple of things and talk to us about what it takes to be a wrestler.
In the summer of 96, storm would suffer a major shoulder injury that the doctors said would keep him out for 2 years. Thus losing the basketball scholarship he had earned. He returned to training after only a year of rehab against doctors’ orders. The uswa wrestling school had been shut down leaving storm to finish up training else where. In the summer of 97, A friend had told him about a show in Columbia, Tn and to ask for Ben Jordan. As fate would have it, he was not booked on the show he was attending that night. Instead he met up with a guy named Shane Morton. Storm talked to Shane about if he would help finish training him and help get him started in the business. Shane agreed and the two became quick friends. James Storm stared his wrestling career on Nov 1, 1997. As storm would travel with Shane and Gary Valiant. He would work his match and sit there and watch theirs. Because those two were “over” with the crowd he knew he could learn by watching what they would do.
Dec of 99…
James Storm would go to work for Bert Prentice in Nashville, Tn. There he would meet his future partner Chris Harris along with Ashley Hudson, Corey Williams, AJ Styles, David Young, Chase Stevens, Andy Douglas, Abyss, Air Pairs and Cassidy Reily. Bert Prentice had in his opinion the best group of talented wrestlers ever on a Indy show. A lot of the “Nashville Guys” got to start going up to WCW (World Championship Wrestling). Storm along with others would go and work some worldwide matches and be apart of the R&B (Russo and Bishoff) security team. WCW would soon be sold to the WWF and back to the Indy seen Storm and the rest of the guys went.
In 2002 word spread quickly about a new company starting up. NWATNA. Lucky for James the talent scouts were in Nashville on June 1st (Storm’s Birthday). That night Storm and Harris had a great match and both were signed to a one year contract. Storm and Harris quickly formed a tag know as America’s Most Wanted. AMW would soon start turning heads. Having classic matches with The New Church, XXX, The Naturals, Simon and Swinger and Team 3D. After 5 years of teaming together AMW split. Now on his own, Storm is still drinking beer and kicking ass. Storm is the self-proclaimed world beer drinking champion. With “The pride of Tennessee” Jackie Moore by his side the future is very bright for James Storm. Cowboy James Storm… TNA World Heavyweight Champion. Sounds pretty good.
